Why Keystone XL will be approved: The U.S. will always need our oil.

Canadian Business -- One-on-one with Shell Oil president Marvin Odum

The U.S. still imports a tremendous amount of oil on a daily basis, and I don’t think it’s realistic to expect to offset that over a very short period of time, so the connection with Canada is critically important.

I don’t know exactly what the terms will be on the Keystone XL approval. But I think the assurances that have been added around safety performance and so forth are important, and I think now that the routing of the line is being finalized, my expectation is it will be approved.

More information on the environmental performance of the oilsands and how that’s changing over time and how that’s improving over time might go along with an approval process. Shell’s been working with the Alberta government and the Canadian government on

I don't think it will happen. Mostly because the USA refineries don't want the Canadian oil.

Why Keystone XL will be approved: The U.S. will always need our oil. Big Oil will build the Keystone XL pipeline and Sneeky will do nothing about it. Sneeky has had his chance and Big Oil is tired of waiting for him to do something MORE for them. Meanwhile, Sneeky is looking at a third term to keep screwing the population and running this country into the ground.
Big Oil and Big Gas sells fuel and natural gas on the world market for higher prices. 'Coming out of the closet' Sneeky's lousy, smoke and mirrors, lack of jobs, dog and pony show and in the crapper economy, the jobs are Not here. Sneeky's economy is not improving but continues to hurt the population and the job numbers continue to be down!
The US ‘oil and natural gas resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! The price at the pump needs to go down to $2/gallon - *$3, *$3.50/gallon or *$4.00 is Not the new low!
More Refineries are Not the answer, Stop exporting fuel is!
Take care of the domestic fuel market first, above all else, before exporting and selling fuel or natural gas to other countries or markets!
Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

What do you think about Canada's needs for exporting to Asian markets now? Looks like they would like to pursue their own needs first and build pipelines east and west. Guess not!

There is at least some hope that the unneeded and highly destructive Keystone XL pipeline will not be built. Tar sands mining is creating an environmental disaster in Canada and developing this pipeline will almost certainly raise the price of gas in the Midwest.

NOT SURE I KNOW THE ANSWERS TO ALL THE QUESTIONS, OR EVEN IF I HAVE ALL THE RIGHT INFORMATION, BUT I'VE SEEN A LOT OF ARTICLES AND FROM WHAT I NOW KNOW THIS IS A VERY BAD IDEA. NOT ONLY THAT, BUT MY QUESTION IS DO WE REALLY NEED THIS OIL. AND... WHY ARE WE, AS THE DOMINANT FORCE ON THE PLANET DOING THINGS IN A MANNER THAT REALLY IS NOT OF BENEFIT FOR OURSELVES IN THE LONG RUN. I DONT THINK GREED IS A GOOD MOTIVATOR, AND THOUGH I HAVE ONLY ONE VOICE AND LITTLE POWER I THINK WE COULD DO A LOT BETTER, IN OUR TREATMENT OF EACH OTHER, OUR RESOURCE USE, OUR GOVERNANCE, AND OUR TREATMENT OF ALL THE OTHER LIFEFORMS WE SHARE THIS PLANET WITH.

Yep, the current adminstration will and wants to make this pipelline an impossibility. They don't want anything good, economical, or positive to help out America and the people. They are out to destroy.

We just hafta get rid of Obama and his cronies...To get the oil from North Dakota, we have to build a pipeline almost to the Canadian border. Hooking up to a Canadian pipeline is no problem.

The USA is far more interested in North Dakota oil and Texas oil. Canada should concentrate on the Northern Gateway pipeline to move the oil to China.

For sure the US needs Canadian oil. The Free Trade Agreement mandates that a large part of Canadian oil MUST be sold in the US. The EAI reports posted on this site routinely report the US importing 3 million barrels of oil per day. May as well build the piepline.
