they don't make enough money with their stuff in the stores anymore, so it's time to lure customers back another way.

I hate Walmart though. I would rather pay a little more to support a local station owner.

Walmart Rolls back gas prices. A local major department store has cents off per gallon for users of their store rewards card at the gas station. But, the nearby Wal Mart does Not have a gas station, so there is No WalMart discount. A 'cash back' credit card will have a higher rate of return than rolling back gas prices but both together will be better.
Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

When I worked, the way I always thought the way management handled incompetent workers was to not give them raises (or the minimum wage increase where a certain level of increase was guaranteed under a union contract) and wait for them to quit and go to work for more money for the competition. It must have worked, because most of our competitors nearly went under after hiring our rejects.

This is cents a gallon not a % off a gallon using a good cash back credit card.

The gimmick here is that these gift cards and money cards constitute nothing but a short term interest free loan that the customer is giving to Walmart. On the credit card, they know that few people have the financial self control to pay the monthly balance off without interest. If Walmart were serious about lowering gas prices the prices would be the same whether you paid with cash or card.
