Southern California gasoline prices finally dip below $4 per gallon

DailyNews -- Southland gas prices have finally fallen below $4 a gallon after an extended run-up.

And a combination of factors - including strong inventories, a decline in crude prices, the slow pace of hiring and more fuel-efficient vehicles - are expected to offset the usual price hikes that occur for the summer driving season, industry officials said.

On Thursday the average price for a gallon of regular in the Los Angeles-Long Beach region was $3.99, down a penny from the previous day, down 5 cents from a week earlier and down 20 cents from a month ago, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

Yep the gas taxes here are high. But we appear to be in second place, New York being first.

Maybe the oil companies heard that a CA legislator proposed an office for gas price investigations. See first article today.

Wow. This is unbelievable. I just cannot understand this. How can some people be paying near $3 and others $4? That's a whole dollar of difference in each and every gallon. This is like being in a whole nother country. Like Texas or something.

So they're paying about $1.06 a liter and whining to cut taxes like they're taxed to death.
1,000 miles north we pay about $1.30 and it IS mostly taxes - including over 65c a gallon city tax just to run transit. Everty penny of those taxes paid benefits everyone who lives here.
You're getting ripped off by the companies, taken to the cleaners.

Good news for California. It also means prices for the rest of us should be down, since California still has higher fuel prices than the rest of the country (excluding Hawaii).
