I've used Michelin tires since the '70s and they've always lasted 70-100K miles, whereas the original Firestone and Goodyears that came with the vehicle lasted 40K "IF" I was lucky. :-(

Even a small improvement if spread out over billions of tires would result in a large savings

Biodegradable Tires. Does this mean that my new tires will not last as long now?

Tires....last much longer than they did 30 yrs. ago.....if you buy cheap tires you get what you paid for.....my wife had a GM with Michelin tires on it that we replaced at 153,000kms....they were not totally worn out but winter was coming so we replaced them. I used to have a '64 Beaumont i bought in the early '80's with new bias ply tires....they were done after 20,000 miles/ 34,000 kms.

Tyres - I don't know about. But, tires, their use and disposal, have major problems.

Sometimes it is easier to buy a new car than to get the tires replaced.

The problem is that tires don't last as long as they use to.

Tires have improved in some areas over the last decade but many passenger tires do tend to wear faster now and the life of the tire has decreased as they breakdown faster just setting on the shelf. If the tire code says they were produced more than seven years ago, even if they still have never been on a car, they should not be used and we cannot even sell them anymore.

You can't get rid of petroleum based fuels. They are still needed for the tires, and roads are made with oil in them.

Tires longevity is a good thing to improve. The fewer of them needed would mean the less oil used to produce them.

Are these new tires going to be safe? Safety should always be paramount.

No more poor quality unsafe tires like the ones "made in China".

lovely, more chemicals to pollute our environment. And, to boot, it's in the name of supposedly "reducing the environmental impact of tires." Hah!

Nice to see some effort made to reduce the environmental impact of tires. They are a tremendous environmental burden.

If it produces better mileage and is less harmful environmentally with no increase in cost, how can you lose?

Yeah I heard that the eco nuts were wanting to reduce the friction or grip on the road with tires. I wouldn't want to lose control on a wet road and die. Sacrifice safety for performance.... A novel idea....

Well , I might buy the tires made from orange peels if they are 20.00 dollars more if they will go 200,000 kms.

Better tires, better gas mileage. Now that is what I need. If the first cost is not to high you could see a net cost benefit over the life of the tires.

Why can't these be made with good, old American Dandelions instead of Russian Dandelions? I'd hate to see more lucrative dandelion-picker jobs sent overseas.
