Renewable energy touted at Nevada policy 'summit'

The Associated Press -- LAS VEGAS — With clean-energy legislation trapped in a political deadlock, renewable-energy advocates called big business the new leader in the nation's green revolution during a national summit meeting Tuesday.

John Podesta, president of the Center for American Progress, said untapped potential in the sustainable energy market could revive the stalled economy and end the recession.

"The focus now has got to be on getting these worlds and mechanisms together to finance innovative, renewable technology," Podesta said.

The Center for American Progress Action Fund and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid hosted the third in a series of national clean-energy summit meetings Tuesday at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. More than 40 people rallied outside the event, with some

That is an oxymoron.

Imagine, big business being green, and the "new leader in the nation's green revolution" at that.

Makes me wonder what the people making that claim were smoking just before they came to that conclusion.Amen! That's one of the best responses I've read.

paul: it is working rather nicely in Europe where there are also large cities (although probably not quite the size of LA or NY).

The people fiddling around with this (five years now) have yet to get off their duffs and build SOMETHING on the best acreage they got from BLM sort of spraddling the California/Nevada line near Primm - 14,000 acres and nada so far. They will use a lot of our unemployed and underemployed lower wage workers for a good deal of this once they get it going. When we need it so badly why do they drag their feet so???????

Notice a rant from the LEFT coast? Some of the countries opposed to taking out Saddam were supplying him weapons. France and Russia are known contributors. Not generally made public by the liberal media.

The Southwest is a Saudi Arabia of energy potential that the Boner & his FWB want to lay fallow, while they make more money off us as gasoline prices keep going higher...

Under Bush/Cheney & the GOP, gas prices TRIPLED...., safety inspectors were cut and look what that got us...... gas prices stabilized at more than double the price when BushCo went in......, energy prices in California more than triple (thanks Enron & GOP), and we had a massive spill in the Gulf which is like going to the bathroom where you eat....(putting a lot of crap and poisons into the Gulf)...

Sorry, that is believable only about the GOP and the Tan Man..... where everything is political.....

Compared to the Boner, Reid is apolitical.

We need renewable energy; however, I'd expect that most new jobs in this field will be lower paying jobs.

Wrong way cobra leader.....

you can put the sun into one's car.

Just have a EV or hybrid, with a solar array for charging it at home.

You have just powered the car with the sun.....

Simple.

Boy, the level of inanity here is ubiquitous....

Please gents... buy a clue......

Build it here, build it now, build it local.....

and that means jobs at EVERY LEVEL.....

and not jobs in China or India.

Harry Reid was promoting Harry Reid. The best thing said was that we need all types of energy. That we all can agree on.

FOR EVERY RENEWABLE ENERGY JOB CREATED THEY ARE PROBABLY KILLING TWO EXISTING JOBS THROUGH ANTI CARBON LEGISLATION. Through Carbon taxes and subsidised competition basically. While at the same time they are raising our cost of living. But what the heck the government is going to support all of us right? With what when everyone is on welfare? Who is going to be left to pay for that; the Politicians who exempt themselves from all the legislative boondoggles they create?

I'm not against sustainable energy but I highly doubt there are enough jobs out there in that particular market to make a signifigant change in our current economic climate.

You should spend more time worrying about your own energy policy in Canada, esp. the Alberta oil sands mess, PissedCanuck.

The subject, promoting and developing renewable energy, is right on for our GasPrices news articles AKmailman. Thanks for the point that even T. Boone Pickens attended this Nevada renewable energy conference, Bleeder!

indyjim - YOU are way off base with your last line and not at all PC. It does not say much about you when you can't even spell 'retarded'!
