New technology propels 'old energy' boom

AP -- Technology created an energy revolution over the past decade — just not the one we expected. -- By now, cars were supposed to be running on fuel made from plant waste or algae — or powered by hydrogen or cheap batteries that burned nothing at all. Electricity would be generated with solar panels and wind turbines. When the sun didn't shine or the wind didn't blow, power would flow out of batteries the size of tractor-trailers.

Fossil fuels? They were going to be expensive and scarce, relics of an earlier, dirtier age.

But in the race to conquer energy technology, Old Energy is winning.

Oil companies big and small have used technology to find a bounty of oil and natural gas so large that worries about running out have melted away. New imaging technologies let drillers find oil and gas trapped miles underground and undersea. Oil rigs "walk" from one drill site to the next. And engin

It's going to take a long time for green energy to replace fossil fuels.

New technology propels 'old energy' boom. BioFuels and Renewable Energy was to replace the declining fossil fuels. Then Big Oil found and developed the oil and natural gas deposits and everything changed. Now is the time to squeeze that rock for its worth and produce more hydrocarbons.
Big Oil sells fuel on the world market for higher prices. The US ‘oil resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! The price at the pump needs to go down to $2/gallon ----- *$3, *$3.50/gallon or *$4.00 is Not the new low!
More Refineries are Not the answer, Stop exporting fuel is!
*If 'they' can export all that fuel, there are enough refineries already, there is no need for more!
Take care of the domestic fuel market first and above all else before exporting and selling fuel to other countries!
Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Yes, this administration and the people who pay for it dont want any of this old energy, and are prepard to do whatever necessary (like bankrupting the country) to make it happen.

Good information. But this administration still spend BILLIONS on "green" energy companies which continue to declare bankruptcy and walk away with OUR cash.

Gee, isn't it interesting how the laws of physics and economics continue to work even when the enviro-whackos pour billions of dollars into unfeasible "feel-good" technologies?

Techology is great, but we haven't managed to make oil yet and getting it cheap is running out. Wells that go miles into the earth are expensive. After what the spill cost BP ocean wells are more expensive. To match the expense of getting it will be the expense of the refineries buying it. $100 a barrel oil can't be far away.

The rush to capture more and more of the oil trapped in rock formations thousands of feet beneath Earth's surface has distracted us from dealing with the impact of releasing all the combustion products from burning hydrocarbons (fossil fuels) into the atmosphere... we are going to choke ourselves on polluted air, cause wild swings in weather, and generally raise atmospheric temperature enough to create problems we are not equipped to handle...

The destruction of the US economy by the Obama administration has led to the defeat of his "green" agenda - as smart has he thinks he is, he could not see that happening.

We all know how smart union organizers are.

As long as Big Oil is as "big" as it is, they'll find a way to keep themselves alive!

Oil and gas are not going anywhere... Nothing we read in "Highlights" magazine in the 1970s in school is going to happen in our lifetimes!

50 years ago I was told cars would drive on air, hover into a tight parking space and be guided by wires in the ground. That has not happened either.
