MARKET WATCH: Oil prices continue to waffle

Oil & Gas Journal -- Oil prices continued retreating with front-month crude down 1.4% in the New York futures market July 30 but rose at midday July 31 after the Energy Information Administration reported the first increase in US crude inventories in 5 weeks. Natural gas prices continued to slide, down 0.4% at yesterday’s close.

In equity trading, analysts in the Houston office of Raymond James & Associates Inc. reported, “The stock market was underwhelmed by President Barack Obama's tax-cut-shaped olive branch yesterday. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index closed less than a tenth of a percent higher than where it started. This probably isn’t surprising since the two parties in Washington remain at loggerheads about how potential revenues should be spent.”

Obama proposed a corporate tax cut in exchange for more

Carefully watch the price difference between WTI and Brent oil. Early in the year, WTI was over $22/barrel cheaper. A couple of weeks ago, WTI was more expensive. Now, WTI is about $3/barrel cheaper. Because of the cost of extracting oil with the new WTI wells, WTI may not be competitive anymore.

As long as oil remains above $100/barrel, it threatens to push our economy into recession.

And the roller coaster ride of gas prices continues! The bottom line is that Obama has done nothing to control oil speculation/prices, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, or improve our economy. His sole agenda is to cater to his tree hugging, stimulus sucking, union dominated, ultral liberal major contributors. As a result, we continue to be screwed at the pump, with our utilities, & with our taxes. Nothing will change as long as Obama is in office & controls the Senate. 2014 Elections are coming - stop this madness!!

No reason to "waffle" - we are swimming in crude - it's the oil companies setting the price since domestic oil is not subject to global pricing

The can afford to waffle when they are at least $35.00 too high to start with.
