Gas prices not low enough for some drivers

Times Leader -- Even though fuel prices are about 12 percent lower than a year ago, Oscar Cabrera of Scranton said it’s been a long time since he could afford to fill his SUV’s tank.“I just put $20 in every day,” Cabrera said while at the pump next to his Chevrolet Trailblazer. “It’ll take (nearly) $100 to fill the tank.”

Although gas prices usually rise as Memorial Day approaches, this year is bucking the trend. Pump prices have been hovering around $3.40 during the past few weeks in the Wilkes-Barre area, according to AAA statistics, although some stations are offering it for a couple of pennies less.

Renaldo Nunc, an attendant for seven years at the Sunoco station along North Keyser Avenue in Scranton, rolled his eyes and said this spring fuel prices are inconsistent and crazy.“Here it’s $3.39.

based on the fact that the barrel has come down in price, pump prices SHOULD be much lower...

It costs Saudi Arabia less than $2 to produce a barrel of oil. They charge market price, about $90 a barrel. The profit goes to fund their budget, largely subsidized food, and to keep them in power.

In other words, the price you pay at the pump goes to subsidize the Saudi economy and keep the Saudi people from rebelling.

I don't know anyone who thinks they are low enough.
They need to be a dollar cheaper before I will even begin to think prices are starting to get "low".

I wish it would go down and stay down. This is madness, and just pure greed. I do feel sorry for the folks with diesels.

Can't afford to drive it? Then get rid of it. If you can't run with the big dogs then quit whining and stay on the porch. This is not rocket science, people.

Just because it's lower this year doesn't mean I'm getting a break. It's still up a lot more than my tiny little raises.

According to my fuel log book here on this site I was paying $3.69 at this time last year. At this moment most of the stations in my area are at $3.69.

So, gas prices in my area and probably many other areas are not lower than they were at this time last year.

Gas prices are not low enough for me. I average over $50 a week into my car.

Duh! The prices are going up again. One station where I live raised prices by 20 cents this week. What's going on?

Title should read "Gas prices not low enough for ALL drivers."Who are these drivers that feel gas prices are low enough???If they exist, they should have their heads examined.

Fuel is a global commodity. If you siphon off all the various taxes and levies that world government apply, we really do all pay about the same. Except for places like China and Venezuela, which spend billions to subsidize the cost for little benefit.

So I don't understand the logic in thinking gas prices are never low enough. They are a reflection of supply, demand and profit. They'll never be 77¢ a gallon again like it was in the 90s of my youth. They'll probably never be under $2/gallon again, for that matter. That's life.

If you can't afford gas, you're driving the wrong car.

What is consistent is gasoline is still way too expensive, and over priced compared to oil prices. Gasoline was too high even a year ago! The cost of travel from point A to point B is too expensive and unaffordable for many.

Let's put the federal fleet on CNG, and the commercial trucks that can as well - drop the floor on oil price and see if we can kick start the US economy. Oh yes, and no more exporting refined gasoline too - I don't need to give eminent domain to a foreign corporation to pipe oil to a foreign owned refinery to ship gas to China - where are the Americans in this country any more - corporations are not patriotic.
