Fuels study spurs ideas
Friday, March 28, 2008
Indy Star -- When Ben Davis High School students got the assignment to research alternative fuels, sophomore Daniel Johnson didn't know what to think of hydrogen for vehicles.

"At first I was quite skeptical, but as I studied I decided this is the way of the future," said Johnson, 15.

More than 300 integrated chemistry and physics students studied alternatives such as ethanol, electricity, hybrids, hydrogen and a more efficient form of gasoline. This week, the top nine students in the project presented their arguments for either a hydrogen vehicle or an electric car.

It is just a matter of time before hydrogen is on the forefront of supplying fuel to a vehicle. This vehicle may not get the performance of todays cars, but it will get to from point A to point B. We are just in too big of a hurry and too set in our ways to make any changes. Maybe we can get into a vehicle that uses hydrogen but can only go 50 MPH. If that is what technology brings us, then we need to adapt. But knowing people, they will refuse this technology because going only 50 MPH is too slow.

Talking about hydrogen is all good, but has anyone considered the SCIENCE of it? We have no distribution system for it and if we start compressing it and hauling it around in rail cars, we will have thousands of potential Hindenbergs --- just one accident will stop all this discussion.

Why are we behind? Simple answer: MONEY. Big Oil will never allow another type of fuel into the market.

Why are we so behind? Is it the Car manufactures? The Oil Company's, or our own lazy fault?

a lot of good ideas with hydrogen in cluding a possible maglev transit system in the near future if the bureaucrats would stop bending over to the big oil money.

Short of ruining ANWR so that some schmuck can fill up his Suburban, anything that helps America stop shipping away its wealth by spending billions of dollars on foreign oil is a good thing.

Thats what they said about our roads. Look at them, they were better 30 years ago that they are today. The design was simple back than. Don't say we didn't have the traffic we have today because you can still find roads that were built back than and there still driveable. New ideas aren't always better

Develop existing vehicles with much higher gas mileage - 60, 70, 100MPG.
Hydrogen is NOT the answer - it uses way too much electricity to produce that hydrogen.
For EV's a battery that has a fast recharge and will power the vehicle for 100 miles or more.

Produce more and different alternative fuels using NON FOOD sources.
Limit then import of OPEC oil.

Produce more renewable energy - wind, solar, tidal, hydro, etc. etc.
