Not likely as long as we depend heavily on coal. We import $5billion/year of foreign crude to mine and haul coal to the powerplants from Wyoming alone. Eastern coal doesn't have as far to go but needs more diesel to mine it. Total bill if you ferret out the numbers from the raw data is about$ 350 million/day representing 300,000 barrels per day. Natural gas is 0 imported oil. .

What is the use for energy independence if I am still paying high prices at the pump?

Never going to happen. The industry will happily push to sell our excess reserves overseas in order to deplete our reserves that much sooner. They already want to do it with natural gas.

Imagine a possibility of fracking destroying 80 % of our water supply and we have to import water at $100 a barrel ? What I don't like is there is no accurate studies of what fracking does to our water supplies, if you know of any, please send me way to look at them. ( web site link ) Thanks

Why is there not a Nobel Prize for geologist most directly responsible for technology????

As we speak....oil is being replentished by organisms growing underneath the surface of the Earth and there will be an endless supply of crude.
We just have to find it.
Drilling and fracking makes sense.
....And we don't need ETHANOL either!

They can envision anything they want to, it's still a limited resource and we burn it creating an atmospheric problem. There are things that use oil in their production but the sooner we get away from heating with it and driving on it the better.
