Crude oil, retail gasoline prices decline

DAILY SUN -- Crude oil, retail gasoline prices decline

By DAVID R. CORDER, DAILY SUN

THE VILLAGES β€” Consumer pocketbooks grew a little fatter Thursday at the gasoline pumps.

Crude oil prices plummeted on the New York Mercantile Exchange, fueling speculation that gasoline prices might fall even further than in recent days.

This is more good news for Villages-area residents, who over the past week or so have seen gasoline retailers cut almost a dime off the price of a gallon of unleaded regular.

Some of The Villages retailers posted prices around $2.54 a gallon, about 9 cents off the price they charged about a week ago.

β€œIt’s dropping everywhere,” said Jim Smith, president and chief executive officer of the Tallahassee-based Florida Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association

We have seen price decreases at my local stations over the past week. I hope they stay there - or drop even more.

It's dropping, but not fast enough. I can live with "$20" per barrell as predicted in the previous article.

Since Obama was elected, the price of gasoline has increased even while crude dropped from $48 to $34 a barrel. The prices local to me in Sacramento, CA have not decreased at all. However, they have finally stopped increasing.

The price decreases will be a lot slower than the increases were. Too bad our fatter pocketbooks don't include a major decrease in unemployment and all those businesses reopening.

Nothing but INflation here - Maui.
Up 15 cents on July 1 due to a gas tax holiday ending. So the tax is now in place again and whammo - up 15 cents. Gee thanks legislators.

Not so here. The retailers want to soak the tourists on their way to and from Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.

Is that why it just went up another 5 cents yesterday.....

Conservation is the best thing we can do. We still need to implement a fast track to alternative fuels and energy to be come energy independent from foreign support, big oil companies and local utilities monopoly.

Doubtful the speculators will feel so badly that the .48 cents it will take to get under $2 here will happen. They always seem to find the silver lining one way or another.

Still a lot of gas well above $2.40 here in SA. And I wouldn't be surprised if Houston and Dallas non-attainment gas is cheaper.

"... pocketbooks grew a little fatter ..."

What kind of statement is that? So are the stations now paying people when they buy gas that makes our wallets fatter? Nothing has EVER made MY wallet fatter when it comes to gas stations!

Here in Canada it rose for our July 1st holiday & only declined yesterday 4 cents/L ( that's a whopping $.18/gal Cdn, largest drop in long time). Gas is still way expensive compared to the US.

This article is very disorganized and appears a crude price drop with purported pump price drop. The pump price and the price of crude have had no association with each other for over a year!
