Chevron completes repairs of fire-damaged crude unit at Richmond refinery

washingtonpost.com -- Chevron Corp. says it has completed repairs at an area of its Richmond refinery that was damaged last year in a fire.

The refinery was damaged by the August fire that sent a towering plume of black smoke into the air. Thousands of nearby residents complained of respiratory issues after the blaze.

The company received a nearly $1 million fine from state workplace safety regulators, who said Chevron didn’t heed its own scientists’ advice to replace the old, corroded pipe that failed and caused the fire.

Chevron completes repairs of fire-damaged crude unit at Richmond refinery, they ingnore the advice of their scientists, do not replace a corroded pipe and a fire in August is the result. When gas prices fall, a refinery fire has to happen somewhere, lower supply of refined fuel to keep fuel prices up at the pump and this was the place for that to happen. Now is the time to schedule the next refinery fire somewhere and keep those fuel prices high at the pump!
Remember upper management when the time comes to adjust their pay when the company pays fines and for the nearby resident respiratory health care costs.
Fuel prices will never go down to a reasonable level when Big Oil sells fuel on the world market for higher prices.
More Refineries are Not the answer, Stop exporting fuel is!
Take care of the domestic fuel market first, above all else, before exporting and selling fuel to other countries or markets!
Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

At least people are paying more attention to them. Remember, the media never seems to point out the errors of the media.

The independent members of the Board of Directors have this annoying habit of asking the CEO to explain how they got things so messed up.

On the other hand, only once have I seen the Board of Directors come out in favor of a shareholder proposal.

Every time I go by there I think, "Please don't blow up. Please don't blow up."

So far so good.

It's good to have news enlightening the public in any way on these refinery fires, which seem to be happening with more frequency in recent years.

Things like this usually happen when sharp-penciled accountants and managers override the best judgment of the scientifically trained.

On the other hand, some of us perfectionists go half-crazy when a word is misspelled.

They will probably spend $2,000,000.00 for lawyers to fight the proposed fine.

So it's due to oilers' negligence that you get to pay for repairs and higher prices for gas and diesel too.
