Cape Cod town to vote on taking down wind turbines

WCVB -- FALMOUTH, Mass. —A controversy over wind turbines could make one Cape Cod town the first in the country to tear them down.
Neighbors say the noise is from the turbines is making them sick.
The loud whir from under two turbines sited at Falmouth's wastewater treatment plant is not even audible from Neal Andersen and John Ford's nearby homes.
All you can hear are the birds. But they said when the wind is right and the gusts are stronger, it's a different story.

"It would be like hearing jet engine sounds," said Andersen.

Last May when the Department of Environmental of Protection sited a noise code violation, distressed neighbors went to the town. Since then the turbines have been shut down from 7p.m. to 7a.m.

Next week at town meeting, residents will vote on whether to dismantle the turb

Mass liberals are huge whiners, there are no bigger crybabies. Mass liberals also hate change and anything different, they are surprisingly conservative there, preferring stasis. These Falmouth folk are typical NIMBYS.

The three gigantic windmills visible behind my house make no noise at all. They are over 300 ft high. I stood outside and listened carefully, heard squat. I walked down the street and got as close as possible. Hmmm, maybe a slight hum, not sure. The wind was ripping yesterday.

Also, looked for dead birds, nothing underneath that I could see. They are right on the shore so there are zillions of seagulls.

These are brand new, been running for 6 months now. They are a also complete boondoogle, but I like them anyways. Pretty cool. Too bad they make no economic sense.

Each wind turbine is unique as installed and generating electricity due to its tower location, the wind speed at any given time, wind direction, the year the turbine was made, etcetera. The point is that each turbine has a number of variables that will determine if and when the spinning turbine blades will make noises that range form very irritating to harmful to humans/animals/birds. It will be interesting to see how the Falmouth vote turns out.

Maybe they should have done a noise study, before building the turbines.

Twilight Zone time for the Andersons. Neighbors around 30 wind turbines by Lincoln, Maine are not 'hearing things'. Same is true folks near them in Lempster, NH. This 'audio disturbance' is not a common effect nor are 'birds dropping like flies' as the oil shills would have some believe.

And build a conventional coal plant. Then they will complain about the noisy transportation of the coal.

I would like to see the greenies protest the Mass town and MAKE them keep this wonderful source of clean cheap renewable energy going 24 hrs a day...unless they want to buy 100% "Al Gore Certified" Carbon Credits to off set their petty greedy and short-sighted whining. ( sorry couldn't resist)

The same old story, it's as bad as the person who buys a house by a airport then complains the planes are keeping me awake. It boils down to common sense. This one will cost the tax payers double the cost to build and the cost to take down.

Wind farms really divide communities and even families. The land owners make lots of money in rent.

If the turbines are making that much noise, which I doubt, it is more likely that the breaking mechanism is not working right under high winds.
