Can California’s Clean Energy Ambitions Survive the Shale Oil and Gas Surge?

Green Tech Media -- California’s fracking industry could mean billions in state revenues and jobs.

California leaders are talking about energy abundance -- but they aren’t talking about solar and wind.

State policymakers are considering the extraordinary economic opportunity in shale oil and gas. That's the first of California’s emerging trends, a discussion of how to exploit the potential bonanza in its Monterey shale, estimated to constitute 63 percent of all U.S. shale oil reserves, without sacrificing environmental standards.

State leaders are also considering how the development of fossil resources will impact the state’s ambitious goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent from 1990 levels by 2050. That has led to the second trend, which is collaborations, consultations and partnerships between

regardless the people running the state will throw away any additional revenue on stupid social programs that do not work (unless the intent is to buy the votes of those who are convinced they are the disenfranchised victims of the status quo. All the while being fooled into supporting the status quo.)

I doubt it, the lawmakers will cave when people balk at the much higher green energy prices.

With all the uncertainty and unreliablity in the green energy industry, they should go with what has been prove to work. Oil, natural gas and coal have been doing a great job for a long time.

The California financial situation will complicate the path forward. Taxes on the shale oil and gas could help address California's financial woes.

Can California’s Clean Energy Ambitions Survive the Shale Oil and Gas Surge? State leaders are considering how the development of fossil resources will impact the state’s ambitious goal to cut greenhouse gasemissions 80 percent from 1990 levels by 2050. California has about 63% of the shale oil resources in the US. Texas 20% and North Dakota 17%.
Fossil fuels will be around for a very long time to come.
More fracking, more chance to pollute the surface and underground waters. Properly treat the fracking water so it can be released safely on the surface. Recycle water into the underground rocks fracturing Only if there are NO contaminates or pollutants injected into the underground water and rock system at the same time. ****It doesn't help when they put diesel in the fracking water! ***So much for the available water!
Anyone for flaming water from the kitchen faucet? How about More earthquakes from additional ground water and fracking operations?
We need clean drinkable water and uncontaminated lakes and streams!
It takes more natural gas to go the same distance as gasoline or diesel, natural gas does not have the same amount of energy that gasoline or diesel has.
As more and more natural gas is used for various things/items, watch for the price to go up and up. I need natural gas to heat my water and keep my house warm during the heating season, there is no need for higher natural gas prices.
Drive vehicles with high mpg, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Considering we are the state that protects insects, frogs, etc by not permitting building I can only hope there's a resolution that actually works.

Injecting liquid into the areas around the San Andreas fault seems like folly to me. Why not squirt WD40 directly into the fault line and see what happens?
