CA legislator proposes office for gas price investigations

GasBuddy Blog -- A California legislature has floated an idea aiming to curb gas price manipulation in the Golden State, PolitiCal says. State Sen. Mark Leno’s bill would create an Office of Fuel Price Investigation and Manipulation Prevention at the California Energy Commission.

According to Leno's press release, the legislation "will help protect California consumers against erratic pain at the gas pump." Last year, drivers in the Golden State experienced some of the most drastic gasoline price spikes in the state’s history. In many places, gas rose to over $5 per gallon. While fuel producers pointed to a perceived supply shortage, industry experts concluded that price manipulation might have been a factor in the volatility, according to the release...

They should have a committee of citizens, representing several regions, who report suspicious price gouging in their area. Not more politicians being paid to do nothing. Especially when most politicians have their hand in the oil industry pot anyway.

This is typical of a California Democrat legislator who chooses to propose something that the idiot masses who vote for people like him might like even though it won't do anything to lower prices. Instead it wastes precious tax revenue that this state lacks. There has never been any evidence of price manipulation or price fixing, and they won't find any this time either. The state's Attorney General is responsible for anything illegal, and we don't need another special office that investigates something where there is no indication of any wrongdoing.

California legislator DemocRATs have run this state into the ground. We have the highest tax rates, the highest unemployment rate, and the worst business environment in the country. We are most likely still running a budget deficit even after additional huge tax hikes. It is no wonder businesses and individual tax payers are leaving this state.

CA legislator proposes office for gas price investigations? How many investigations have already investigated this and they could not find any wrong doing? Gas Price investigations would have to be done at a national level but there are too many government officials on the take from Big Oil and Nothing would ever come of it.

Thought they had done this before. What CA doesn't need is another investigation to waste tax payers money again with little action taken except to find there is gas price manipulation.
