Bronx student endures 4-to-5 hours+ daily commute

GasBuddy Blog -- We've all heard about some awfully long-distance commutes. And when the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration looks at the data, they're looking at the distances adults travel each day to get to work...

Now think for a moment about you'd feel if you were 14 years old and had about a 4- or 5-hour commute each day just to get to school.

A Bronx HS of Science student living in Queens officially has one of the longest school commutes on the planet — a journey of more than five hours each day that tops the trips of everyone from a Brazilian kid on a donkey to a Thai girl in a rickshaw, according to the NY Post.

The story reads that he chose to go to this school that is way further away from his house than other schools. This is why this isn't worthy of being reported in a manner that they are trying to get us to feel sorry for him. In fact, I have no idea why it is in the news at all. I drive 1500 miles to go on vacation. Should I not get my story in the news as well? It's just as news worthy as this story is.

If you get on the train in Bay Head, New Jersey, it will take you 2-1/2 hours to make it to New York Penn. You still have to get to work from there. I know, I did it for a VERY short time.

Many children have it equally bad by having to go to school in a dangerous area with no real security. I am speaking about children who want an education in Detroit Michigan. At least he has a nice school and a safe environment. By the way my family moved in my senior year of high school and I chose to stay at my old high school. I rode the bus 1 1/2 hours every morning and 1 1/2 hours every night. Since I was in sports I also got home late. No one really felt sorry for me and I am not complaining.
