Average fuel economy of new vehicles hits another record

GasBuddy Blog -- According to a monthly report by Michael Sivak and Brandon Schoettle from the University of Michigan, the average fuel economy of newly purchased vehicles during the month of March 2013 has hit yet a new record all time high.

The average fuel-economy (window-sticker) value of new vehicles sold in the U.S. in March was at a record high of 24.6 mpg. This value is 0.2 mpg up from the revised value for February and up 4.5 mpg from the value in October 2007 (the first month of our monitoring). The window stickers also have not taken into account that some people drive very lead footed and Jack rabbit starts,and will never attempt to get good gas mileage.

Average fuel economy of new vehicles hits another record? The mpg is slowly improving but far short of what it should be. What is the actual mpg under real world driving conditons with standard equipment and tires And not on a dynamometer?
I got 32 mpg highway with my '79 Honda Civic CVCC.
There are too many people driving gas guzzlers, SUV's and daily driver pickups (that will never carry or tow anything) keeping the overall vehicle mpg low.
The ethanol mix in gasoline does not help mpg either! Meanwhile, the price of fuel keeps going up (to maintain those Big Oil Profits) and state fuel taxes or sales tax increases too!
Along with the increasing cost of new vehicles.
Choose the vehicle you drive very carefully, only You can prevent low mpg!
Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

The fuel-economy figure on the window-sticker of a new car is only obtainable if the car is driven in a certain way under certain conditions as specified by the EPA. The average driver is unlikely to achieve the same figure.
